How to crop a PDF

Keep a copy of your original. If you only need to crop one page, save it as a separate PDF first.

If you need to remove confidential information, use redaction instead. Cropping can hide content without deleting it from the file.

  1. Add your document

Upload the PDF you want to crop.

  2. Set the margins

Let the tool detect the blank margins, or enter your own values.

  3. Download your PDF

Save the cropped copy and check that nothing you need is missing.

Make scanned documents easier to read

Scans often come with generous margins. On a phone or tablet, those blank areas take up room you could use for reading.

Bring the text into view

With less white space to display, your PDF reader can show the text at a larger scale when fitting the document to the screen.

Auto-trim white margins is for clean scans with a plain background.

Remove scanner marks

A scan can include a black strip from the scanner bed beside the text. Use Custom margins to cut it away without scanning again.

This works when the mark sits outside the material you want to keep. Cropping cannot repair a smudge over a word or diagram.

How the page dimensions change

The remaining text and images stay at their original size and position. Paragraphs keep their line breaks.

An A4 sheet measures 210 × 297 mm. Removing a 10 mm border leaves 190 × 277 mm visible. The diagram shows an example calculation, not a processed file, and isn’t drawn to scale.

Before you share or print

Leave space for page numbers, handwritten notes and signatures. They’re easy to miss if you only check the first page or two.

Check the whole document

A wide table or a footnote later in the document may need more room than the first page. Flip through the saved PDF before you send it to anyone.

Be careful with files that mix paper sizes: 10 mm off a receipt removes a much bigger share of the page than 10 mm off an A4 report.

Printing at the right size

A cropped PDF may no longer match a standard paper size. Use print preview to check how it sits on the sheet.

Choose Actual size to print at the original scale. Fit to page can enlarge the result.

Missing a signature or part of a table? Start again from the original with a smaller crop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Page size, readability and what cropping leaves in the file.

Still stuck? Email [email protected].

Can I crop just one page?

Yes. Save that page as a separate PDF first, then crop it. There’s no page-range option in this tool.

Will cropping remove confidential information?

No. Content outside the visible page can stay in the file and may be recoverable. Use a redaction tool to remove confidential information before you share the document.

Will cropping make my PDF smaller in MB?

Not necessarily. The file can keep data beyond its visible boundaries. If you need to stay under an email or upload limit, use Compress PDF.

Can I undo a crop after downloading?

Keep the original PDF for another attempt. Some files retain the hidden areas, but don’t count on restoring them from the cropped copy.

Can I crop a PDF to A4?

You can crop a larger page down to A4 as long as the content fits inside the A4 area. Cropping can’t enlarge a smaller page or scale text and images. To fit the whole document to a paper size, use a PDF page resizing tool.

Is it free to crop a PDF?

Yes. One PDF up to 100 MB at a time, no account needed.
